History of St. Fidelis Senior High Technical
The School was established in somewhere 1993 by the Roman Catholic Church as a Secondary/Technical mixed institution and operates as a day and boarding school with the aid of a Board of Governors, a Parent-Teacher Association, and a Student Representative Council and later gained the status of a Government-Assisted School. Students are offered courses such as general arts, general science, business, and Home Economics to pursue. After their stay in the school, sit an external examination called the West African Senior School Certificate Examination to be placed in any of the tertiary institutions in the country. Unlike Elective courses, core courses are offered to all students, irrespective of their programme of study. The core courses in the school are English language, core mathematics, social studies, and integrated science.
There are currently four houses available for boarding students who require a stay throughout a term: Buckle, Bonsu, Sarpong, and Afrifa.
Since its establishment in 1993, the school has achieved many successes and produced great men for Ghana and the world.
The school maintains a high academic standard and has over the years been ranked among the best performing Senior High schools in the Eastern region of Ghana. In 2016, the school was ranked as the 3rd Best School in the Eastern Region.
The school was closed down in 2000 due to mismanagement and was re-established with a student enrolment of 99 form 1 students in 2004 under the Headship of Mr. Constantine Sasie Nyewie, a gentleman by all standards, respected in all cycles of life. He remained the only headmaster who accepted a posting to a village school where there was no student, no teachers, no vehicle, no bungalow. He lived in a bat invaded, stinking and leaking bungalow. He had to beg for items ranging from chalk, pens, official papers and patronised public transport to help establish a place we now called a school. The headmaster academy together with Mr. Agbesi and Mr. Naab comprised the initial teaching staff of the school. Mr. Agbesi worked as an English and History teacher and Mr. Naab taught Mathematics and Integrated Science.
They were later assisted by three National Service Personnel; Mr. Patrick Abotsi, Philip Oppong, and Madam Felicia Brebo who taught Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Christian Religious Studies respectively. They served both as counselors and role models to the students and reneged on their promise to ensure that received the training that was required to make us responsible citizens.
Notable among teachers who have been the torch bearers of the school since its re-establishment in 2004 are; Mad. Dora (Social Studies), Mad. Dora Boateng (Secretary), Sir Ezua, Mr. Agbenyegah, Sir Richard, Sir Ishmail, Burkina, Morino, Tsikata, Paul Osei, Pope for Hope, Sir Prince etc.
Great Fidelsco has also produced a lot of professionals for Mother Ghana; Hon. Joseph Appiah, Monica Kantang(Eye Specialist), Naale Frederick(Agric Technician), Martey Francis(Teacher), Matthew Agyepong, Joyce Tinnor, Juliet Hoya(Accountant), to mention but a few.
The absence of some vital social amenities that teachers outside of the district could easily access(bungalows, boreholes), coupled with the difficulties with transportation especially when crossing the river, hinders the school's academic performance. The boys' Hostel is yearning for expansion and rehabilitation, the classrooms are few, and subjects such as literature in English don’t have teachers. one of the classrooms has been converted to an assembly hall due to a lack of facilities to house students
