Oti Region: 29-year-old teacher loses life in tragic boat accident
A tragic incident has rocked the Chinekope M/A Primary School in Kete Krachi Municipality, located in the Oti Region of Ghana.
Sampson Adu, a 29-year-old teacher, lost his life in a boat accident when the vessel he was traveling on capsized.
The local community has since laid him to rest in his hometown in the Eastern Region.
This heart-wrenching incident occurred just 24 hours after another boat accident claimed the lives of nine pupils from Faana to Kelee in the Weija Gbawe Municipality, leaving only three survivors.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the families of the departed.
In a statement, the GES assured the families that they are in their thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.
“With a heavy heart, Management expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, and assures them that our hearts and prayers are with them in these trying moments,” the GES statement said in part.
However, Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has lashed out at the GES, pointing out that if they had acted on recommendations it made earlier in the year concerning purchasing life jackets for pupils and teachers in the islands, the outcome might have been different.
