History of Mampong Akwapim Senior High Technical for the Deaf
The late George Coffie, a deaf student of the Christian Methodist Secondary School in Accra between the years 1968 and 1972 had a lot of problems coping with the hearing students. So when he got the opportunity one day to meet the then Head of State, Gen. I. K. Acheampong he discussed the issue with him. The Head of State was touched upon hearing this and decided to invite Mr. David Aryee, the Principal of the Deaf Educational Specialist Training College at Mampong-Akuapem to ask him if he could initiate the process of setting up a secondary school for the deaf close to the Specialist Training College.
