ASHAIMAN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, popularly known as GREAT ASHAISEC came into existence when the erstwhile PNDC Government saw the need to establish a Secondary School in Ashaiman to cater for a large number of Junior Secondary School graduates from Ashaiman and its environs who needed to reap the benefits of Senior Secondary Education.
The school was formally opened in September 1990. In the following month, Mr. C. M. Amekugee, B.A. (Hons) a Geography teacher of Nungua Secondary School was appointed as its first Headmaster.
On Monday, 4th February, 1991 the first batch of students admitted to the school reported to complete admission formalities. Ashaiman Secondary School (now Senior High School) originally started with two (2) programmes. These were Agricultural Science and Vocational comprising Home Economics and Visual Arts programmes. The first batch of students, 179 in all, wrote the final examination, the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, in November/December 1993.
During its thirty-one (31) years of existence, Ashaiman Secondary School has had eight (8) substantive Heads.
